Why Donate

We believe that emergency care should be safe and free from harm. Your donation helps us to transform patient safety in emergency care and supports our efforts to prevent harm and save lives.

EMPSF - WHY DONATE

  • Emergency Departments (ED’s) are one of the most vulnerable areas in the hospital when it comes to patient harm from avoidable errors.
  • There are approximately 130 million patient visits annually to our nation’s ED’s.  It is anticipated that 1 in 5 people will access an ED every year.
  • Patients who come to the ED do not expect to be harmed, but serious harm happens…every day.
  • Safety should be a top priority. Given the inherent complexities and challenges of emergency medicine, too often, the safety assumption is a reliance on a strategy of hope that nothing goes wrong.
  • Hospitals and providers are limited in their ability to focus on safety.  Resources are scarce and there are many challenging demands competing for time, attention and money.
  • EMPSF stands in the gap to provide hospitals and emergency care providers with the critical tools and resources they need in order to deliver safe, quality healthcare.
  • We need to change the culture of ED’s from safe by accident, to safe by design.
  • Patient safety impacts all of us.  Each one of us is potentially a heartbeat away from needing emergency care.  The next visit to the ED could be yours or someone you love.
