To underscore its commitment to patient safety and risk management, EPIC and its business partner, the Nyhan Consulting Group, led the formation of EMPSF to serve as a key provider of such services to EPIC and policyholders. And, as the association-sponsor of EPIC and its professional liability insurance program, each EPIC policyholder is required to join the Emergency Medicine Patient Safety Foundation (EMPSF) as a condition of obtaining insurance coverage from EPIC. This not-for-profit educational foundation will provide most of EPIC’s patient safety and risk management services, collect statistical data on professional liability claims and conduct studies of patient safety issues facing Emergency Medicine and its constituencies. EMPSF will seek grants and independent funding sources to assure it has the financial resources to properly serve emergency medicine and the public it serves.
